NYSEG is requesting a 15% rate hike over the next three years. How many people are seeing a 15% increase in income?

If approved, both NYSEG and ConEd (which was approved earlier this year), will both receive 15% increases over the next three years by the same Albany regulators we’re depending on to hold them accountable on their substandard response from Hurricane Isaias.

If the recent Tropical Storm Isaias has taught us anything, it’s the urgent need for greater electric grid resilience. Our infrastructure needs to be enhanced to match these annual storms and frequent power outages. Investing in local, renewable energy sources is one step in that direction.

Rate hikes are not the answer, especially when they are geared to line shareholder pockets of our foreign-owned utility companies instead of being invested in resiliency and infrastructure.
